Mediation & Peacemaking Course
Mediators bring conflict parties to the negotiating table and support them in finding agreements. Mediation used to be a domain reserved exclusively for diplomats and UN envoys, but in the last decade the range of actors in the mediation field has broadened and the field has professionalized. Participants gain insights into the diverse challenges, which mediators face when facilitating dialogue and searching for peace agreements.
Participants are familiar with the most important concepts, definitions and challenges relevant to negotiation and mediation (knowledge);
Participants understand the main dimensions of mediation process design (knowledge);
Participants practice negotiation and mediation techniques (skills);
Participants experience the dynamics of a mediation process (attitude);
Participants understand the Swiss approach of mediation and get a feel for what it is to be a Swiss mediator in the field
The course is designed for practitioners and academics interested in bridging their own experiences with current conceptual insights and practical knowledge on peace mediation.
